Following the continued success of Halloween, thoughts soon turned to other potential productions throughout the year. Many suggestions were offered but 'Wonka' would be the first to come to fruition. By Easter 2014 the grounds of Nevendon Manor were transformed into Charlie's Chocolate Factory and an altogether different clientele were welcomed, once again, through the gates of Nevendon Manor. The setting was challenging & the nature of the production was very unique. None of the team had any real experience producing a family event of that scale but it was a great start.
'I first joined the Nevendon team in the autumn of 2013. The first time I ever set foot on the grounds it was like walking onto a film set. The decorations were so elaborate, I assumed this was a year round design - I couldn't imagine that such effort was put into seasonal decoration! Since those early years, the events have gone from strength to strength; each event more elaborate than the last & I am looking forward to seeing what new events are being planned for 2018'
- Ben Trombacco - Event Photographer
The demand was so high for Wonka that the team decided to re-produce the same event again 4 months later. That same year, the first 'Wonderland' was introduced & the core team was beginning to find their feet. Before long, a year had flown by and it was time to re-visit more familiar territory – Halloween 2014, which was as ambitious as it was successful. The team entered 2015 with confidence and experience, introducing 'Oz', the 3rd themed family event. At this point, everyone involved were still working full-time jobs and doing what they could in the evenings and weekends to get the job done – It wasn't always easy and the great British weather was rarely on their side but it was a labour of love & a total team effort.
'Right from that first meeting one cold October night in 2013, I could feel Jane's passion and quickly fell in love with the Manor and its stunning grounds. It was like one big family with the same ups and downs - but mostly ups. I left due to personal reasons in 2016 but it has been a pleasure watching it grow & I cannot wait to see what new events they have in store.'
David Biscoe - Actor/Special Makeup FX Artist
As with any fledgling business venture, people come and go but some have a lasting impact. Nevendon Manor Events is no different, and has had its fair share of colourful characters over the years. There's been far too many to name everyone, however, we'd like to acknowledge Jackie Tobin, Sue Standing (& family), David Biscoe, Wayne Reddington, Lisa Hall, Jason Coster, Janis Sarson & of course, our resident photographer - Ben Trombacco as some of the early contributors.
'It was always a very close friendly team and even though the events have grown tremendously, that close family feeling is still very prevalent. The events have changed drastically over the years too; they have both grown in professionalism and in sheer size. My children love going to the events just as much as I love participating in them'
- Lisa Hall - Actress/Dance Choreographer
Jane & Dan soon realized that their skill-sets complimented each other & a formidable partnership was born. The unlikely pair eventually became more than just creative partners & took a leap of faith, leaving full-time employment in 2016 to focus solely on the events, which have gone from strength to strength ever since.
It often surprises people how small the 'core team' really is at Nevendon Manor, given the scale of each production and turn-around to the next. Jane & Dan worked tirelessly & sacrificed a great deal of their lives to produce the events. In truth, however, they could not do it without the kindness & generosity of friends who give up their time to support them in so many ways. Hayley, Simon, Summah & Saffia Johnson are like extended family & have become an integral part of the team ever since a baby-faced 'Saff' first made her appearance way back in 2014 as a shy Cheshire Cat – how things change!
'I first became involved with Nevendon Manor back in 2014 when my daughter acted in an early production of Wonderland. I helped out where I could & was immediately welcomed as part of the team. Nowadays all the family are involved & love being part of the core team, helping to grow productions bigger & better. It's been a magical journey for us all & it's been a pleasure seeing my girls grow in confidence. Dan & Jane have become very close friends who are more like an extension of my own family. Their passion has inspired me to live the dream and help the dream become reality'
- Hayley Johnson – FOH/Admin/Chaperone
The Nevendon family also extends to Suzanne & Joe Davis who are talented actors in their own right. Between them, they have performed many roles at Nevendon but one of the most valuable is as friends to Jane & Dan. You can always rely on Suzanne & Joe to be there when the chips are down!
'I've been acting at Nevendon Manor for a couple of years which is great fun & not like anywhere else. I've made loads of new friends & it's provided me with unique opportunities like helping with the animals, which is very rewarding. My confidence has grown so much & I feel more like part of the family than just part of a team'
- Joseph Davis - Actor/Animal Keeper
From 2014 to 2017 Nevendon Manor Events produced 'Wonka' 5 times, 'Wonderland' 4 times, 'Oz' 3 times, 'Halloween' 3 times & 'Do you believe in Fairies' twice & managed to pick up a few awards along the way too.
Each event requires a new cast, which brings together talented actors of all ages, from different walks of life. Many cast members return year after year, but newcomers are welcomed and it is a pleasure to see friendships blossom and confidence grow.end of an era
